Honest above clever
If a plant care answer is "I don't know," the app says so. It doesn't invent numbers. It doesn't pretend a photo is enough when it isn't.
I built Planterra for myself first. Then friends kept asking for it, so I made it a real thing.
I live in Munich. I'm not an iOS engineer by background - I learned SwiftUI as I went, because the plant app I wanted didn't exist and I needed to build it. Planterra has no investors, no ads, no growth targets. Just an app I actually want on my own phone.
I don't want a million users.- Vlada, founder of Planterra
I want a thousand who love it.
I've always loved having plants at home. What I never loved was how every plant app treated me the same as everyone else: a generic care sheet, a chatbot that forgot the last conversation, watering reminders that ignored the fact that my living room was north-facing.
The thing I kept wanting was a plant app that knew my specific home. Which corner was actually bright. Which window peaked when. Which plant history had been forgotten. Nothing existed. So one weekend in January, with no iOS experience, I started building it for myself.
A few months in I showed the early version to friends. Every single one of them asked the same thing: "can I have it too?" That's the moment I decided to make Planterra a real product instead of a personal tool.
Three months later, Planterra is on iOS. It maps your windows, reads real lux from your camera, and gives you a Doctor that remembers every plant it's seen. It's not perfect - no first version is - but it already does the thing I always wanted a plant app to do: pay attention to my home, not everyone's.
If you try it and something's off, tell me. I read every email.

Zero engagement tricks. No streaks, no notifications begging you to open the app. Planterra pings you when your plants actually need something.
Plants live on your device. No account, no server. When you delete the app, your data is truly gone. Not "gone from our records" - gone.
I read every email personally. Usually reply within a day or two.
